A tank will last you longer if you drain it regularly. All of the safety valves water needs to be drained in this case until the tank is clean. Do not use any hot water on your tank for several hours prior to draining because this will cause the sediment to settle to the bottom of the tank. No overheating of the water in the tank should be done. You should try heating the water to only 140 degrees.
